A possible security incident involving the Carlisle-area school district’s Internet system is under investigation, according to an email sent Friday by superintendent Colleen Friend. This is what the Friend’s email said: Dear CASD Families, Yesterday afternoon we learned of a possible security incident on our Internet system. Very cautiously, we have shut down our Internet system until it can be thoroughly investigated. There are no known threats to the safety of our schools, students or staff; however, we will be operating without Internet in the school district today. Our phones are fully functional and our website is up and running. We have been working on this topic all evening and our teachers and staff are aware of this challenge. A few notes: We have a comprehensive school building telephone contact list on our website, which is operational, and you can access it here. Our nurses and school administrators have downloaded all the emergency contacts for all of our students, so should there be an emergency with our students, they will have the families contact information. We are currently restricting parental and visitor access to our schools. If you need to pick up your child, simply call the office and we will work out your child’s layoff plan. Our catering department will be operational and has developed a workaround for student account information. Today in school our students will not be able to use any internet based applications on their laptops or iPads. We will keep you informed of updates and will do our best to provide additional information as we learn more and work to get the internet back online as quickly as possible. We are working with experts who specialize in helping schools and similar organizations respond to these kinds of issues. Thank you for your support as we navigate this situation.
